Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance) XerxsesBioPicfinished

The silence was deafening, and a haunting fog floated just above the ground, seeming to threaten to swallow up the land beneath and make everything disappear. The sun was hidden mercilessly by thick, gray clouds, hiding its warming light from the desperate world below. Starved for the sun’s light, the earth froze, tightening its grip on the life that struggled to survive upon it. There seemed to be no escape from the deadly grip of winter, the very idea of life a mere insult to the white, icy landscape.

But there was life in this horrid place, a single form that battled the thick fog as it moved through the Banished Plains. The white figure was large, almost abnormally so, but the fog made him appear almost ghost-like, with dark green eyes that stared almost angrily in the appearance of an attempt to seem more fierce than the cold that surrounded him. Although he fought his way across the frozen earth, his gait was calm and relaxed, almost lazy, as if he were mocking the winter, denying it the satisfaction of his struggle.

As he moved, however, a wooded refuge slowly began to emerge from the fog. The mist could not penetrate its interior, and the pace of the white wolf increased ever-so-slightly. When he entered the forest, there was a surprising change, the world became alive. After fighting the angry winter for so long, the male wasn’t sure how to react to his new surroundings. It was as if it were an entirely new world here, one he had never seen a comparison to. His eyes roamed the landscape, his pace nearly at a stop, unsure of whether he should continue or remain where he was.

As he explored, however, a strong and powerful scent filled his nostrils. The white male paused, lowering his head to sniff at the ground by his paws. Ah, these were pack lands. That made sense to the scents he had been picking up as he moved. But here was an alpha’s scent, he was sure of it. But wait, there was something painfully familiar about this scent. He inhaled deeper, closing his eyes and pricking his ears forward curiously as he studied the smell. No, it couldn’t be. He lifted his head, looking around quickly, then lowered his head to follow the scent.

There was no time for a call, no time for patience. This scent was definitely familiar. It belonged to someone he had lost a long time ago. Someone he had been searching for ever since he could care for himself. Now that he had found his brother’s scent, it all felt like a dream, as if it weren’t real, but just in his imagination. But no, this had to be real! His pace quickened as Blitz’s scent grew stronger, and soon he found himself running, sprinting right towards the pack dens. When he reached them, he skidded to a stop, finding Blitz’s scent all muddled up in many different paths he must have taken that morning. He stopped, sitting down and lifting his head to howl for his brother, calling to the sky in hopes that he was still close. If not, he didn’t doubt that a beta or high ranking member would try to chase him from the lands. But he needed to hope that Blitz was there. He just had to.

((Coven/Molly continued from: https://incendio.rpg-board.net/t73p30-springs-in-a-snowstorm#1154 ))

The morning had gone by slowly for Fallon. She had, for the first time since she'd joined the pack, slept cozily in the hunter's den with Laek and KiRae. It had been such fun and had felt so good to have the normalcy of a big pack again. But not sleeping alone had meant she slept extra well, not having to shift over and over to shield herself from the cold. A hunting party hadn't gone out today - and Fallon was starting to get antsy over Khalessi's disappearance - which meant there was no escape for the wolfess's abundant energy.

With a blank expression of boredom (which she probably could have cured easily if she tried), Fallon lay flopped on her side in front of the hunters' den, not even looking up at the thundering sound of a wolf charging into camp. The unfamiliar voice registered before the scent could. The female bolted upright and stared at the male for a second, completely unable to register this impossible scene. Jumping to her feet, she ran up to the ten foot diameter around the male, baring her teeth in an almost maniacal snarl, the result of responding despite her bewilderment. She couldn't even process that there might be words to be used here; the only communication she could muster was her warning, though worried, snarl.

Coven appeared seconds later, visage mimicking Fallon's, but with actual thoughts involved. Three important thoughts kept Coven's impulsive need to dive in checked: this white male was /huge/, numbers were on the side of the pack, and there amazingly seemed to be much purpose in this wolf's actions. "Who are you, and what do you think you're doing here?" growled the black wolf, eyes fixed on the other male, but keeping tabs peripherally on the world around him, actually anticipating Chaos joining them, just in case. Because he knew Blitz and Inferno were on the borders, and even in the time it would take long-legged Inferno to get here, some serious maiming could transpire.

Molly was up on her feet nearly just as fast as Coven as he darted from the den as are sooner to the howl. But she was greeted by a wary Coven and an aggressive Fallon. She then spotted the white male. She gasped, sitting down in bewilderment. He looked just like Blitz, and even as his scent wafted to her nose, it was filled with a familiarity. She came up beside Coven, whining softly. "Xerxses?" she asked, tilting her head to the side in confusion. This male had been a part of the pack she had left. Maybe that was why Blitz's even had been so familiar to her. She moved toward him, stopping about a foot away, dwarfed by his incredible size. "What are you doing here?" she asked, looking up at him, not at all threatened about the fact that he could tear her head off in a second with no effort.

Xerxses wasn't surprise when a red wolf came running out snarling, or when a male finally appeared as well. But he didn't expect to see Molly. He was overjoyed that she was alive, and he didn't even answer her question as he stepped forward, his railway vincas he smothered her with nuzzles and licks. "Molly! I thought you died! I can't believe you're alive!!" he said, taking a step back to scan her form. "You are alright, right? You look thin. Have you been eating?" He asked, his eyes narrowing in concern. But when she glared at him and huffed, he laughed, licking her forehead. "Where's Blitzen?" He finally asked, using his brother's full name instead of what the wolves here were used to calling him.

Both Coven and Fallon stepped back in surprise at Molly and Xerxes reunion. The female sighed in relief, her snarl fading quickly as she stared on, warily curious. Her ears were held out to the side in her uncertainty as she exchanged a glance with the black wolf. Not ready at all to be welcoming yet, Fallon moved to Coven's side, putting him between her and the white male. Her eyes flicked toward the forest at the sound of Blitz's name, while Coven continued watching Xerxes intently, ears pricked forward and head up, not sure what to make of this.

As Molly and Xerxes animatedly greeted each other, the beta had made his way to the dens. His breathing only slightly heavier on account of his sprint, Inferno loped to the other side of Coven and was told what had happened. Xerxes being Blitz's brother and being so close to Molly (both relationship-wise and physically) had both the pack males hesitant about making a move. Even Inferno didn't step up at the moment to say anything. If this was truly the alpha's brother - which was easy to believe - then this situation went straight into the paws of Blitz.

Molly's tail wagged furiously as Xerxses questioned her about Blitz. She knew there had been a reason why she had felt so comfortable with the alpha. Now it all made sense. When she spotted Inferno approaching, she smiled, looking up at Xerxses. "Blitz should be here any minute. That's Inferno, the Beta. I'm pretty sure they were both out on patrol together. Blitz can't be too far behind." She said, glancing back at the obviously uncomfortable group of wolves behind her and then back at Xerxses. "How did you find Silverlight? I hear it's very dangerous outside of the pack lands. Did they chase you out of our old pack? Or did you leave on your own? How long have you been alone?" She asked, firing questions at him without giving him a second to respond to any of them.

Xerxses laughed as Molly fired off questions, shaking his head and rolling his eyes at her lack of control. He had known Molly very well in their old pack, and although no one else seemed to notice her, he had been crushed when he had thought she was killed. So now that he found she was alive, he could hardly take his eyes off of her. It had been his fault she had nearly died, for he had left the pack when she did. She must have thought he had gone back to them. But silently he swore to himself to never let any harm come to her, now that he knew she was here, he wasn't going to let her out of his sight again. "Calm down, Molly. There will be plenty of time to catch up later. Blitz is close." He said, turning his head and scenting the air. There was no mistaking his brother's scent, strong and powerful, coming their way. He got to his feet, turning to face the trees as Blitz's form slowly appeared from the shadows.

Blitz had been following Infenro back to the dens, his pace a bit slower because he knew the Beta could take care of things without him if need be. But as he grew closer to the dens, his pace increased, the lack of sounds making him nervous. Typically if there were an issue he'd hear growling, if not, at least loud excited talking. But this time, there was nothing. He found out why when he reached the dens. He froze at the edge of the clearing, his eyes instantly locking on the large white wolf beside Molly. His eyes were wide and his ears perked, his mouth open as if he couldn't believe his eyes. "Xerxses?" He managed to whisper, unable to breathe as he stared at his brother whom he had thought to be dead. "You're....alive???" He stuttered, watching his brother as he came closer, coming to a stop a foot away from the lone wolf. "I thought you died when we were separated in the fire. Where's mom?" He asked, unable to even register that the other pack members were staring at him in bewilderment because Blitz had never been so disoriented and shocked.

Xerxses's eyes froze on the form of his brother as Blitz approached, his tail wagging and his nose scenting the air as he picked up the shock and confusion of his brother as he grew nearer. "She sacrificed herself to get me out of the fire. I haven't seen her since she threw me over the flames. Where's dad?" He asked, already knowing that their father hadn't survived either. If he had, he'd be right here with Blitz. "Nevermind that, I'm so glad I finally found you. I didn't know if you had survived as well. It's so good to see you, big brother." He said, wagging his tail and licking Blitz's chin. "May I stay in your pack? I'm amazed that you have one of your own. I'm proud of you." He said, smiling as Blitz nuzzled his neck, inhaling deeply the scent of his long-lost brother. "Of course you can stay." He heard him say, making him smile and nuzzle back.

As the brothers interacted, Molly carefully and quietly moved back to Coven's side. She smiled up at him, nudging his shoulder gently and sitting down, her tail wagging slightly as she looked back at the two brothers reunited. Who couldn't be excited right now? She glanced over at Fallon, taking note that Chaos hadn't even emerged from her den. Her ears pinned back in concern, and she got to her feet, nudging Coven's shoulder again and heading over towards the head warrior's den. This just wasn't right. Something had to be wrong. Chaos would have normally been out here attacking Xerxses in a second, yet she didn't even leave her den. As she entered the den, she felt her heart drop and her stomach twist. The den was filled with a horrible odor, and Chaos laid motionless on the floor, her wounds oozing puss and her breathing shallow. Coven had been right, there was something terribly wrong with the Head Warrior.

Laek rolled onto her side, awakening from her nap. She had finally spent the night with Fallon and KiRae in the hunter's den, after having spent most of the night times in the little den she'd been given before. But the nights had gotten colder, and she thought the company was just right. She climbed onto her paws as she heard excitement and many of the others from just outside the den. In fact, the growls and words had been what had awoken her.

Laek walked outside and froze when she saw Blitz in embrace with another gigantic white wolf. She could only assume that they knew each other, and were perhaps brothers. She looked at Fallon, who, for once, looked wary of the newcomer. She gave a glance at Molly, who was walking towards Chaos' den, and then at Coven. There wasn't much Laek knew to do, but sit down in the snow, and watch.

Pravin had left the den areas just before Xerxses' arrival to get a drink from the lake. As he was returning, his ears perked up as he heard commotion. He walked past his own den and saw the same scene Laek did, but was slightly confused by the fact that Chaos hadn't come out to either confront the large white wolf, or to even see what was happening. Pravin assumed she was always on the scene. He passed Molly walking into the Head Warrior's den, and he couldn't help but turn to look inside. His jaw dropped a little as his ears lay back; the site was terrible to see, even if it was of the body of the wolf who had given him a hard time his first day here.

Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance)   Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance) EmptyTue Feb 07, 2012 8:04 pm

Coven and Inferno stoically watched the reunion between the two brothers. Both were still sizing up the new male, noting the way he held himself, the fleeting glimpses of scars beneath the well-groomed fur. From the evidence gathered by the male's bold entrance and his physical appearance, Xerxes was not the same kind of wolf as Blitz, and it put the beta and warrior on edge. As usual, neither of these impulsive wolves was conscious of their reasoning behind the initial worry, but status and death were easily two of the unknown anxieties factoring into their thoughts. But neither was going to dare even comment on this, and both were trying hard to hold back their disagreement, resulting in their silence and completely shielded expressions.

While Inferno still watched, breaking his gaze once to nod to Laek as she appeared, the black wolf turned his attention to Molly at her nudge. Understanding that the lack of Chao's presence had been noted by the healer as well, Coven followed Molly. Fallon saw no place for her out in the clearing, and still a bit intimidated by Xerxes, she remained attached to the warrior's side as he moved.

The black wolf entered the den, Fallon waiting outside indignantly, and growled a curse, ears pinning back. The first thought that ran through his head was that if she died, it was his fault in at least two ways. Self-preservation wouldn't let him forget that, but pushing the horrible thought aside and taking in a sharp, hissing breath, the wolf turned to Molly, demanding, "What do you need me to get?"

From outside, Coven's words - and the silence surrounding them - sparked the red wolfess's curiosity to the point that she had to peek inside. Though the two wolves blocked her view, and the den entrance was too small to go around them both, the scent was clear. Dropping to her stomach in shock, Fallon finally caught a glimpse of the infected wolf. How could this have happened? "Molly...?" whined the female as she looked up at the white female, fearfully awaiting an explanation. Chaos dying had never been what Fallon wanted...

Blitz was too busy speaking with his brother and catching up to notice the disappearance of the three wolves, or even the lack of Chaos's presence. But after a few moments, he glanced at Inferno, immediately recognizing the doubtful and guarded look in his eyes. His eyes narrowed in instinctive defense for his brother, but he relaxed slightly and took a step back from the almost identical white wolf. "Xerxses, this is Inferno, Silverlight's Beta Male." He said, introducing the two. That's when he noticed that Molly, Coven, and Fallon were gone. His ears flicked backwards in confusion, but at the sudden sound of concerned and frightened voices, he was on his feet and looking towards Chaos's den. "Inferno, please stay with Xerxses. Xerxses, please be nice." He said, the last part in a whisper to his brother, receiving only a chuckle in response. Then he took off to Chaos's den. When he reached it, he knew immediately that something was wrong with the Head Warrior. "Fallon, go take Laek, Xerxses, and Inferno to get hot water from the springs. And quickly." He said, nudging her affectionately on the shoulder in gratitude and sending her away quickly. Then he entered the den, listening to Coven ask Molly what she needed. The smell told him immediately what it was, and he backed off slightly, his ears flattening.

Molly nearly snarled in frustration at the whines of Fallon in the entrance, doing her best to control herself as she figured out what to do. But just as she was about to snap, Blitz arrived and sent the hunter away. Good, not she could focus on the next step. "Alright, Coven, there's a large leaf wrapped around a bunch of herbs right inside my den on the left. Please bring me that and leave it in the entrance of the den. DO NOT come back in." She said, the last words harsh and demanding, a way that she'd never spoken to him before. But she needed to make sure that this didn't spread, and she didn't want Coven sick. She licked his neck affectionately in a slight apology for the harsh tone, but pushed him from the den, along with Blitz, and then took a deep breath. "Blitz, please get me a pile of large leaves and some vines. Then keep everyone from entering. We don't need this spreading any further than it already has." She said, standing a few feet away from the males. When she finished speaking, she turned around and went to work, carefully removing the dressings and rolling them up carefully beside Chaos. When she removed the wraps, puss oozed out of the wounds, making her gag slightly at the horrid smell, and curse under her breath that it was taking them so long to get water. She needed to keep this area clean, or this would spread like wildfire.

Chaos laid perfectly still in the den, her breathing shallow and her eyes swollen shut from the infection. The only sign she was still alive was her very faint breathing and the twitching of her ears at every word Molly spoke. She heard the white wolf telling her to stay awake, so she fought the sleep that threatened to engulf her, the peace that she longed for, the escape from the burning, stinging pain. Each time Molly touched her, she whined, barely able to utter the sound from her weakness, fighting to stay awake, and fighting to not give in. Any other wolf wouldn't have survived this long, let alone have a chance from here on, but this was Chaos, she never gave up.

The beta's ear twitched slightly, catching Blitz's whispered last words but pretending to ignore them, though that definitely solidified what Inferno had speculated. Inferno watched Blitz hurry off, frowning as he watched Fallon practically swoon at Chaos's den. The wolf took two involuntary steps forward, wanting to find out what was happening, but Blitz's request kept him still long enough for Fallon to staggeringly hurry over to Inferno, calling blindly to Laek to join them. Eyes wide with shock at the scene she'd just witnessed, never having seen such gore, the female quickly explained to the three wolves their task assigned by Blitz. Inferno nodded and led the way to the springs, racking his mind for a way to transport the water back.

Meanwhile, Coven simply nodded and sprinted out of the den after Molly released him. He hadn't even noticed Molly's snappy tone, he'd been so focused on the words. It took a moment of rooting around the den to find the leaf Molly had mentioned, as there were more than one. After a quick process of elimination, the wolf grabbed the bundle and ran back out to Chaos's den. After nosing the bundle to the edge of the den entrance, he announced to the preoccupied Molly that it was here, and then backed off from the den and headed off to the hot springs. It looked like they'd be needed lots of water.

Laek saw the commotion and then her name was called as Fallon, Xerxses, and Inferno rushed past her. She snapped out of her trance and turned to follow quickly behind the trio. Her ears perked up when she heard their assignment, and then ended up confused as to how they would transport the water from the springs. Then again, she wasn't entirely sure what was going on either. Was someone hurt again? But this seemed worse than just an injury. Everyone was being put to work, that meant something. Laek knew it did, but what?

Pravin stood just outside Chaos' den, as everyone was darting around, listening to the orders of both healer and alpha. Meanwhile, Pravin wasn't sure what to do. He wasn't even part of the pack! Everyone was gone, and now it was just him and the healer, and the incredibly sick. He knew he shouldn't go inside the den, so he didn't. What he did do, was sit just outside, and lean forward. "Is there anything I can do?" He asked, mainly to Molly. Maybe he could prove himself helpful now.

PostSubject: Re: Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance)   Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance) EmptyTue Feb 07, 2012 10:38 pm

At the edge of the hot springs, Inferno paced back and forth, trying to figure out how to transport the water. He'd certainly never had a reason to move water before. Ears perking, an idea hit him. He'd been trying to think of some sort of container for the water, a trough they could drag back, but the memory of the pile of furs they had used for Tessa had spun his thoughts in a different direction. "Guys," he spoke to the others, "we're going to need to soak up the water and carry it that way. There are furs back at the dens..." The beta looked back toward the dens, which weren't far off, but far enough away to take more time than they had. If they couldn't come up with a derivative of the plan, they'd go back, but the hope was to save time.

"I could run back and get some," offered Fallon, not picking up on the reason for the male's hesitation. She was about to run back when Inferno clarified by asking for ideas on things they had at their disposal now. The wolfess headed in the opposite direction as Inferno, scratching at the trees and keeping her eyes open for materials on the ground they could use. Coven eventually appeared and, after Fallon explained the group's dilemma, helped her dig in the snow for potentially useful items that might be buried. "What about the moss?" asked Fallon with a tilt of her head before grabbing a thick piece of spongy moss from the mud and flinging it to the ground to examine quickly.

Blitz ran to find the leaves, placing them outside the den for Molly and then looking over at Pravin who sat there, being useless. He growled slightly, unable to contain his worry for Chaos. "Pravin, come with me. She'll need food eventually. She won't be able to chew, though, so we'll have to eat and then regurgitate it for her. It won't be pleasant, but it needs to be done." He said, his ears pinned back. Typically adult wolves would do this for young pups when they came back from a hunt, and Chaos had no other way of receiving nutrients when Blitz knew she needed. "Let's go." He said, turning and heading to the storage den without another word.

Molly took note of the things left for her, using them as needed. The herbs were helpful, but what she really needed was the water. What the hell was taking them so long!?! Chaos's wounds were now oozing and bleeding, making the den fill with an even more horrible stench now that the infected dressings were off. Then she realized she had replaced Coven's dressings with the same ones. "Crap." She muttered under her breath, exiting the den for a moment and howling for the black male. She needed to get those things off of him before he got infected too. But with a whimper from Chaos, Molly was inside the den again, doing her best to clean the wounds without water, exposing herself to the infection a bit too much. But there was nothing else she could do. It was either this, or Chaos died. They needed their Head Warrior, there was no doubt about that.

Xerxses followed the other wolves, doing as they suggested and helping in any way he could. He gathered moss, carried it to the springs, and soaked it completely, setting it on a large leaf to retain water. He peered into the springs, wondering what else they could use to carry the water to the healer. He wasn't sure what else to do, so he did his best to follow orders and move quickly, for he knew time was not on their side.

Laek nodded at the moss idea; it was their best bet right now, if they really wanted to beat time. She put her moss gathering skills back together and began to throw them in a pile. After a moment, she bent down, and soaked as much as she could, placing them on an oddly shaped rock to the side. Even if they did lose water, it would stay on the rock, right? At least Laek thought it would work. But as she did this, she tried to think of other ideas to carry the water back. But she wasn't very creative, and continued with the moss. Was there really no other way?

Pravin looked up at Blitz at the sound of a growl. At the alpha's command, Pravin nodded, showing understanding as he followed Blitz to the storage den. It wasn't the best job, but it could help very much. And it was also a job that he hadn't done in quite a while. Pravin stopped in front of the storage den, hesitant about whether or not he should just enter, or wait for Blitz. He looked at the alpha, ears pulled back, waiting further instruction. Blitz was no doubt worrying for the Head Warrior of his pack, and Pravin couldn't help but worry also.

The wolves bustled about gathering as much moss as they could fit in their mouths without letting too much of the hot water eke out. Recognizing the look on Laek's face as she stared at her moss on the rock. He gave her shoulder a reassuring nudge with his nose as he passed; this was the best plan they had, and they'd make it work. They'd probably have to come back multiple times, but at least they were moving, and there was plenty of moss around. Mouth full of leaf-wrapped moss (Xerxes had the best idea for keeping most of the water in the moss), Inferno nodded to the others that it was time to get going, and they hurried back to the dens, depositing the moss at the den entrance. It was immediately apparent as they piled the moss that there was not at all enough water for Chaos, and Inferno headed back without a second's hesitation to the springs. Taking the running start as a challenge, Fallon sprinted off, knowing she'd beat the taller wolf to the springs and glad that speed was something that was going to come in handy today.

Coven hung back and stood in front of the entrance, tilting his head at the healer inside, finally responding to her call he'd previously ignored. "What did you need, Molly?" he asked, eyes on the black wolfess as he guiltily worried he should have come quicker. Did seconds really matter for Chaos? Had the time taken for him to get back cost her? Only out of respect for Blitz and his place in the pack did Coven care that Chaos not die, but it was enough.

Molly sighed in relief as the water finally came, and began to pour it over Chaos's wounds, doing her best to clean them in order to preven spread of the infection. Then she stepped from the den, satisfied that Chaos would be fine for a moment, and rinsed her entire body off, leaving herself soaking wet. "I need to get those dressings off of you. They might be infected." She said, immediately going to work without letting him protest. It was obvious that she was already weakening and tiring, but she didn't have a choice right now. "Now, go bathe in the springs. You need to make sure you're clean before you come into contact with anyone else." She said, looking up at him as she finished. When she got his dressings off, she figured he'd be fine without them, and then dashed back into Chaos's den, getting back to work cleaning her and applying herbs. But she was slowly running out of water, and she growled under her breath at the lack of it. But she couldn't risk taking Chaos out to the springs, for that could get the rest of the pack sick. So she made do with what she had.

Xerxses did all he could to help, carrying water to the den and then running back to the springs, in a seemingly endless cycle. But there was no time to be tired now, no time for a break. That would come later, assuming that Molly got Chaos stablized. Soon he had a system down, and he was moving water faster than ever, his large size definitely helping the process even more.

Blitz sighed as Pravin hesitated at the den entrance. "Come in. Don't slow down this process anymore that you have to." He said, frustrated and worried. He didn't mean to be snappy, but he had never known Chaos to be this weak, and he hadn't ever seen that before. He ate quickly, doing his best to get enough to bring back for Chaos when she could eat it.

Laek appreciated Inferno's comforting nudge; it was the best, and only, way. And they had to do it quick, so when they had arrived at the den, she darted off behind Fallon and Inferno, quickly falling into step with them. She pulled ahead and worked on finding more moss, and soaking it. She placed the pieces on leaves, as they had previously done, and worked on a nice pile. After running back and forth a few times, she figured one or two of them could stay here and prepare the moss, while the others ran it back to the dens. "Maybe some of us should stay to have a constant supply of soaked moss, that way, theoretically, we could get the water there quicker?" She suggested to Inferno, Fallon, and she had managed to catch Xerxses in the middle of one of his runs as well.

"Sorry." Pravin muttered as he entered the storage den and quickly began to chew up food for the sickened Chaos. He chewed and brought it back out, dropping chewed up buck on some leaves that happened to be there. And he got the pattern and kept going, not stopping. As he chewed, he thought of the others who had gone to get water. He wasn't sure which job he would have preferred, but didn't think much of it as he spit out another wad of chewed up pup-food.

Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance)   Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance) EmptyTue Feb 07, 2012 11:48 pm

Oh, the dressings? As the healer quickly stripped what was supposed to have been healing him, Coven peered quickly inside the den at Chaos, immensely relieved that he had somehow escaped, as far as he knew, what had taken hold of the head warrior. What an unlucky turn of events for Chaos and Molly; both had been healing so well!

As Molly hurriedly finished taking care of him, Coven licked off a few beads of water from her shoulder. This was not promising a good recovery for the healer, worried the wolf as he hesitated at the den entrance after Molly ran back in. The weariness in her voice - already! - had Coven worried, but what could he do? He couldn't do anything for Chaos but get water; he couldn't somehow transfer strength to Molly; he simply had to watch. Molly was going to be at this for too long today.

Defeated before even being able to open his mouth, Coven turned away and ran to the hot springs, since following Molly's instructions was something he could do. Thankfully, his wounds had hardly hindered him initially, and they were almost completely healed, so the wolf was not lacking in strength. The trip to the springs was quick, and after thoroughly dunking himself in the furthest pool, shaking off, and giving his coat a few cursory licks to skim off the worst of the water, Coven got back to work running moss back and forth. Fallon and Laek were lapping him, but Xerxes rhythm fit well with Coven's desire for efficiency, and since the white male had discovered a quick system of gathering moss, the black wolf kept on the same schedule as him for a while, gladly picking up a few time-saving tips from observing the wolf.

At Laek's suggestion, Inferno lit up, even smiled a bit at such inspiration, and nodded. "We can switch off to give the runners a break every once in a while," he said. "I'll start gathering for now, and you guys just tell me if you need a rest." Xerxes looked like he could go for a while, Fallon and Laek were the fastest wolves they had right now, and there was the worry that Coven would freeze with his wet fur if he stopped running. So for now, Inferno took up the shift and began soaking moss and setting it on the rock Laek had used earlier.

Molly knew that Coven was worried about her, but she couldn't waste any time right now. Chaos was on the edge, and she needed to get her stablized. The constant supply of water was a relief, and she was grateful that they finally got down a system so that she didn't run out. After what felt like hours to the white healer, Chaos's wound were clean, treated, and no longer leaking puss. However, that probably wouldn't last long. But Molly wrapped them in herbs, leaves, and vines that Blitz had brought, and then sat back to take a breath. But soon she was back on her feet, cleaning off some leaking puss and covering it carefully. Chaos's breathing was shallow and weak, and her eyes were still swollen, but she was at least stable. For now. She looked up as Blitz and Pravin brought chewed up food for her. "Good, just set it there, I'll add some herbs for the swelling and help her eat it in a minute." She said, cleaning another portion of the black wolf's body and re-dressing it with clean and sterile herbs and leaves. Then she moved to the food, sprinkling some herbs into it as well as some sort of syrup, and then mixing it together with a stick. Then she added water to make it more liquid, and then carefully tilted Chaos's head to pour it down her throat. She did so slowly, allowing the black wolf to swallow, but didn't let up until she had downed the whole mixture. "There, now there's nothing to do but wait. The warriors will need to sleep with the hunters for a while, Chaos needs to be isolated. I will not risk spreading this to the entire pack." She said to Blitz, making sure that he didn't enter the den and she didn't get close to him. She didn't doubt that she had been infected as well, and she carefully made her own concoction in an attempt to prevent her infection from getting to the point of Chaos's. But she wasn't sure if it would work. Only time would tell.

Xerxses continued his system, not even stopping as Chaos was stablized. There was still water needed constantly, so why stop? His pace never slowed, never tired, as if he were a machine. Sure, he'd crash later, but for now, he wasn't going to give up.

Blitz listened to Molly and nodded, moving away from the Warrior's den and checking on the progress of the water. He helped for a bit, but he knew that it wouldn't do for the long term. Thank goodness there was a stream nearby. He carefully began to dig, damming the old stream path and making a new one that went right in front of the Warrior's den. The water flowed shallow, but it would be enough for Molly to use if need be. Then he walked back to his den, collapsing in front of it and laying on his side, panting and doing his best to calm himself in order to process what had happened as well as stop himself from worrying.

Pravin took the chewed up food and followed Blitz back to the warrior's den, dropping it where Molly told them to. He caught a glimpse of Chaos, and she looked terrible. The smell that wafted out wasn't the best either. She was going to be isolated, and Pravin thought the pack was lucky to have such a good healer in their hands. He tried to imagine what would have happened if there had been no healer, or if she had been as sick as he was told she once was. He shook his head and looked sideways to see Blitz damming a stream. He watched it flow shallow in front of his paws, and all the way past the den. Pravin side stepped and began to dig a hole. He figured that a pool to catch a majority of the stream would have a better effect. Soon after, the stream was still flowing, but a good amount had been kept near the den. After he was finished, Pravin went over to help with the others. Although he was not sure if they still needed the constant running of water-moss now that he and Blitz had redirected the stream.

Laek quickly got into a pattern; run to the springs, run to the dens, run to the springs, back to the dens. She trotted to a slow stop after a while, and nudged Inferno to relieve him of the duty. Rather, she was just getting tired. She yawned, then went back to work. She looked up to see Pravin approaching, examining their teamwork. But Laek had not properly met Pravin yet, and only recognized him as the blur she saw running the water-moss. He was a large wolf. She realized that she had stopped working, and dunked a piece of moss, as well as her muzzle, into the warm spring water. Very relieving after winter's hit.

Fallon was dying for a rest as well, her endurance fizzling out much quicker thanks to her sprinting. Even though Laek was also there, she had to stop for just a second, helping Laek gather moss. She looked up curiously as Pravin appeared, but didn't have time to say anything as Inferno came running in right after.

He explained that they could take a break for at least a little while up at the dens, thanks to Pravin and Blitz. Blitz's redirecting of the stream would be a big help to Molly, but if she ever needed spring water again, the pack had a nice system down anyway. Before heading off to let Xerxes know, Inferno gave Pravin a knowing and appreciative nod. He'd seen the male pitch in and help with the stream, and he wouldn't forget. Fallon grinned as they headed back to camp. For once, she was not in the mood to talk, and instead, she trotted back to the dens in silence and flung herself down in front of the healer's den, mentally and physically drained, though looking up eagerly for Pravin and Laek to join her.

The beta caught up with Xerxes and loped alongside him, relaying the message that he could stop for now. "Thanks for your help," added the male sincerely, nodding seriously. It couldn't be denied: the new member knew how to pull his weight in a pack. Both he and Pravin had both redeemed themselves a good deal from the status of strangers to Inferno.

Coven had stayed behind at the dens once Blitz had reconstructed the stream. Still remembering the healer's warning to stay away from the den, the black wolf stood outside far enough to feel safe, but close enough to speak communicate. "Molly, do you need anything?" He was actually talking about her this time, not Chaos through her. "Food, for instance?" he added, his irritation at her plight causing the comment to come out a little sharply.

Xerxses finally came to a stop as Inferno told him that they were done for now, panting softly but doing his best to recover quickly. As Inferno spoke, Xerxses smiled, nodded slightly. "Don't mention it. Just doing my part." He said, sighing and letting his eyes venture to where his brother lay, worried, by his den. "If you'll excuse me..." He said, nodding again to the Beta, respectfully, and passing him to go join his brother. He laid beside Blitz, licking his brother's ear gently and sighing. "She's fine for now, that's all we can do. You've got a wonderful healer here, Blitz. You're one lucky Alpha." He said, resting his head on his brother's body as they both relaxed.

Molly couldn't help but smile as Coven's voice echoed through the den. She poked her head from the entrancce, smiling despite his snappy tone. "Could you get me some food? I'd appreciate it." She said softly, her eyes exhausted and her fur messy and dirty. She hadn't had time to clean herself up, and she probably looked quite terrible after taking care of Chaos and trying to keep the pack away. She laid down in the entrance, half in and half out of the den, her eyes watching Coven's form move. She wanted nothing more than to curl up against him and sleep, but she didn't want to risk getting him sick. She whined softly, wishing for the comfort of the black male that she couldn't have.

Chaos laid silently in the den, stable and resting, her condition only barely better than before. Molly had done well, but she was by no means out of the woods yet. For now she just rested, fighting to recover from the infection that was on the ropes because of Molly's herbs and care.

PostSubject: Re: Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance)   Long Lost, Recently Found (Acceptance) EmptyWed Feb 08, 2012 5:54 am

Inferno nodded silently as Xerxes headed over toward Blitz and the beta made his way to his own den, laying down in front like everyone else. He lay his head on his stretched out paws and scanned the pack from that position, the realization setting in that his little swim in the river had taken more out of him than he realized. Or was it the constant running about afterwards? Either way, the beta was actually relishing the chance to rest. So content was he that it was impossible to hold back an irked groan when he realized that Tessa and Sibirskiy were missing. Really missing. So was Khalessi. Still. Ears pinned back, Inferno dragged himself up to a sitting position, closed his eyes and told himself, 'On the count of three, I'm moving. One, two...' He couldn't let himself finish. Like a worn out pup, the wolf slid back to the ground, giving himself ten minutes before taking Pravin on a wolf-hunt.

Mutely, and still projecting his worry through glaring, Coven turned from Molly and headed directly toward the storage den. Inside, the sight of new additions to the storage pile eased his disquietude slightly. At least the growing group of hunters were keeping up with the demand for food, now that there were so many pack members. The wolf stripped pieces of flesh from the almost bare deer carcass that had been brought in a while ago. He sniffed the meat before taking it out of the den, but was amazed at the preservative capacity of the den. Deeming the meat safe for his friend to eat in her state, Coven finally delivered the food. After giving the food to her, the black wolf lingered nearby for a moment, giving her a hard look that in his offbeat, loving way was asking for more ways he could help her out. What she needed was food, water, and rest, and he was pretty much hindering the only thing left, but it didn't feel adequate to leave just yet.

Xerxses knew that Blitz needed to rest and calm down, so he said nothing else, but instead began to groom his brother's fur in hopes that he would sleep for a bit. He knew that the Beta was more than capable of keeping an eye on the pack, and he himself had every intention of helping him do so. He would figure out his place in the pack later. His eyes scanned the dens, finally falling on the exhausted Molly in the warrior's den entrance. He frowned, his ears flattening as he wished there was something he could do to help, a feeling that he appeared to share with the black male that seemed to hover just close enough to her to avoid getting chased off. But the black male had gotten her food, so Xerxses didn't say anything, but instead laid there watching, making sure no harm befell his old friend.

Molly smiled weakly as Coven retrieved her some food, wagging her tail gratefully as he dropped them nearby. She ate quickly, finishing them even more so, and then looking up at the black male with a sigh. "Coven, I really want to ask you to stay with me, but I can't risk you getting infected." She said softly, her ears pinned back as she longed to curl up beside him like that had done not too long before the appearance of Xerxses. She wanted to tell him that she was likely sick with the same think Chaos was because of her exposure, but she didn't want him worrying any more than he already was. "Will you at least stay nearby?" She asked, her voice fighting off a pleading and desperate tone. She was worried to be alone, especially if she got very sick as well. Then neither her OR Chaos would survive the night.

"I'll be right out here," assured the wolf, a gentle smile breaking his previously hard expression. He took her in for a moment, eyes concerned and face serious once more, before instructing her, "You'd better get some sleep while you can. Just call if you need anything; I won't be far." With that, he left her, hoping she'd actually be able to get some sleep if he quit talking to her. Coven wasn't an idiot; he knew Molly had not only been heavily exposed to that gruesome infection but that she also was highly vulnerable to it in such a weakened state already. It wasn't worth it to mention it since he knew she knew, but it was impossible to keep from worrying.

Now Coven finally met the eyes of the newcomer he had feel watching him for a while. Blitz looked like he was sleeping or close it, but Xerxes was the one who had a story to tell anyway. The male made his way over to the brothers and sat down far enough away to have a nice amount of distance between them but close enough to speak easily. "Xerxes, huh?" Coven stated conversationally, though a little frigidly. Though this was Blitz's brother, he was a stranger to almost everyone else. "I'm Coven," he introduced himself, keeping his voice conversational and controlled so that any wolf could sleep through it. The hope was that the alpha would, because Xerxes was way too interesting at the moment to not talk to. It definitely had nothing to do with Molly.
