Running Away

She kept running, not looking back as she left Sib far behind. She didn't know where she was going, and as the ground softened beneath her, her tears slowly ceased flowing and she blinked the wetness away, finally realizing where she had ended up. This reminded her of the time that her and Sib had been attacked by a gator, but the dangers really didn't matter to her right now. Neither did the fact that she could easily get lost in here. She frowned, concentrating on jumping from solid spot to solid spot until she was deep in the swamp.

Finally she paused, panting softly and sitting down. Why had all of this happened? She thought he loved her. But no, he was leaving her. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to remain calm as she sat there, completely oblivious to the threat right beneath the surface of the waters nearby. She sat there for a while, closing her eyes and letting her mind relax, forcing herself to push the most recent events out of her head. But now that her eyes were closed, she failed to see the ripples in the water, making their way closer and closer to her from behind. Then, without warning, a large alligator emerged from the water's jaws open and ready to strike. And strike it did, causing Tessa to squeal in pain, the sound echoing through the sky above her as she was dragged into the water slowly. It had caught her by her hind leg, and she yelped and clawed at the water, fighting to stay above as she was dragged further and further away from land.

He was lost now, and that was just putting it the nice way. He lost her, e had left Tess... all because he couldn't be who she wanted, the mate she deserved. What choice did he have? He made her unhappy, and, he hated that... she would be happier without him around. That's the only thought that keep him from completely breaking down... she's be happier in the end. Sighing he looked forward as he walked, he had taken off wandering after Tessa broke out into tears and ran off, not really knowing were to go, what to do. He had no where to go, no one he could turn to really. He couldn't go back to the packlands and see Rayne... as messed up as that was, he couldn't, not like this. So... here he was.... back to being a loner, something he was no stranger to yes... but it felt different. For once, he felt like something was missing... and it was her that was it. He had come to not even be able to be away from her... and now... now knowing he'd never be with her again... it was hard to bear being alone.

It wasn't long before he found himself in the swamps, sighing and grinning to himself. This is where they had first really met, where he had saved her so very long ago... where their relationship had started. It fit oddly... being here now that it was over. His head hung low as he walked through the murky swampland, attempts to block out all the memories that came from this place ending in vain as he whined softly. ow he wished this had all been just a really long nightmare. His ears shot up though as he heard a loud squeal, looking around as e looked to find the origin of it. Who's voice it was was almost instantly obvious, making him growl and wine simultaneously. Why had she come out here... she knew it was dangerous out here... why? Was she trying to get herself killed!

He was broke out into a run, not even thinking about it, what was there to think about anyway... Tess was in danger... he couldn't ignore that, leave her and have something happen to her... he still cared about her... so deeply did he still care. It was the only hold this entire land had on him. It didn't take long to get to where she had been, the ripples in the water still there, the small glimpse of the gator that had grabbed her. Of course, here they were again... him saving her from a gator... a little bit more then a coincidence in a way. No time to think though... he was in the water in a second, paddling as fast as he could towards them. Sure... take on a gator in the water... that would work... obviously this was a horrible situation... but it didn't matter, he had to do something.

He did the only thing he could think to do, which, was really stupid of course, but, hell, it was something. He bite the alligators tail, biting down hard, making sure to draw blood. He had to get it's attention, get it to let go of Tess... even if that mean't him getting eaten instead, and right now, it seemed really possible.

She was underwater now, dragged down and spinning as the gator went into a death roll, pulling her leg and making her wince and struggle from the pain. But she could not free herself. Soon, the lack of oxygen caused her to loose consciousness, the threat of drowning ever present as she was thrashed below the water, which was now filled with mud and blood. But then, the gator suddenly released her, her small form floating to the surface and simply floating there, limp and seemingly lifeless as the gator turned on Sib.

It thrashed around to get to him, but the battle was not worth the small meal, and it swam away instead, off in search of easier prey. Now just her and him, Tessa floated limply towards the shore, unconscious with her nose and face in the water, unable to breathe and unable to move for lack of oxygen and well, consciousness.

When the gator rose to the surface, he couldn't help but get a bit scared right then. He was in this gators water, getting killed was pretty much a simple task at this point, and, he couldn't even breathe for a second, watching it thrash, but swim away instead of attacking. Why the gator left was completely unknown to him, he could have easily just killed Sib... err, questioning that was stupid, it was gone, but, now, e looked over to see Tessa floating near the bank, her head still under the water.... she wasn't conscious. He swam over to her, the mud and blood filled water dripping off him as he got out of the water, grabbing her scruff and dragging her limp body out as well. Breathing hard now he looked at her, she was bleeding, bad, and... he didn't even know if she was still breathing... no, she had to be, she had to still be alive... she couldn't die, not like this, it wasn't right. He... he had to get her to Rayne, Rayne could help her, Rayne could save her, she had too.... because Tess couldn't die.

He was in a panic now, moving to her and grabbing a hold of her scruff again. He couldn't possible drag her, her cuts were to bad.... dragging her could make it worse, a lot worse. carefully, he ducked his head under her, sliding under her unconscious body and slowly standing up, grabbing hold of one of her legs in his maw to keep her balanced on his back. It wasn't going to end like this... not here. He was walking back towards the pack lands instantly, careful not to go to fast as he might drop her, but still in a bit of a hurry. "Please don't die Tess... come on, stay with me just a little longer Tess..." he said softly, again his eyes watering now, he couldn't help but start to break down again. Why now... why'd she have to run off here... why didn't she just go straight back to the pack and stay... she might die... he might lose her for good. They were't mate's anymore yah, but, but... that didn't matter... not at all.

She remained unconscious as he dragged her from the water, laying limply on his back as he hoisted her up and began to carry her back to the pack lands. She hung on him, his hold barely keeping her from slipping off as he neared the pack territory. When they entered, her head fell to hang limply beside his neck, her breathing shallow and labored. This wasn't the first time she had nearly drowned, Inferno had saved her at the rapids before she had joined Silverlight the first time.

When they reached the dens, she began to cough, spitting up water and jolting on his back, making her slide partially off of it. It was hard to breathe, the world was dark, her head was throbbing, as was her bloody, twisted leg. She continued to cough, whimpering and trying to blink and look around, unable to see anything but dark, blurry shapes as her body slid from his back and her coughing cleared her lungs of water.

It seemed like it took forever to get to the pack lands, every second filled with anxiety, worry, straight up dread. This shouldn't have happened, it shouldn't have. Managing to get to the border's finally, he laid down, sliding her off him the rest of the way as she started to cough, looking around now. Heh, she was coughing, that was good, well... not good, but, better then what she was before. He looked over towards where the dens would be, sighing. He couldn't face them right now, it was chicken, but... he couldn't. Lifting his head, instead he let out a long, loud howl, hoping to get someones attention, Cas, Rayne, anyone to come. He then looked back down at Tessa, smiling weakly. He had to go, he couldn't deal with having to hear anyone, hear Cas again, nothing. "You better not die on me Tess, I still haven't had the chance to make things right, so don't die.." he said softly, looking back towards the dens, then, turning around and running off a little ways away, at least to where he couldn't be seen by anyone. He'd leave once someone came and got her. He wasn't going to just run off until he knew she was safe.

As he heard Sib's howl, Cas came running, skidding to a stop as he spotted Tessa, coughing and laying all alone at the borders. Thank goodness he had been patrolling! He ran up to her, licking her face and whining as she blinked up at him. But she was falling into unconsciousness again and his ears flicked back, grabbing her by the scruff and lifting her up, slipping under her and pulling her up onto his back. He carried her similarly to how Sib had, rushing to the dens carefully. When he got there he headed straight for Rayne's den, whining and entering as he carefully laid Tessa down.

"Rayne! I don't know what happened, but I heard Sib howl and then I ran and found her like this. She's unconscious and...her leg..."

He panted, looking down at the limp alpha and then back up at the healer. He didn't know what to do, he wasn't a healer, so he looked up at the white female hopefully, panting and laying down, a bit winded from carrying the female from the borders to here. He hoped Tessa would make it alright, she was a wonderful alpha and he hated to see anything bad happen to her. He whined softly, blinking at the cat, Isis as she scrambled over to Tessa and whimpered. He had heard about the little cat the alphess had taken in, and he carefully took her by the scruff, placing her between his paws and grooming her to calm her down. The caracal curled up against him, her eyes wide as she looked at Tessa's limp form. This could NOT be happening.

((Laek continued from here ))

Laek had been out spending time to herself, taking a breather in her new pack territory. She was also brushing up on her hunting skills, capturing small rabbits. Soon, she was walking back to the pack dens with many of the small creatures swinging from her mouth. But when she heard an urgent howl for help from Sibirskiy, she ran top speed to the aid of her alpha. She arrived at the dens area just as Casanova was carrying a limp Tessa into Rayne's den. Laek followed them, dropping the rabbits just outside. She froze as she saw Tessa's body, but then looked around the den. Cas was grooming some cat, and Tessa was just a gross sight. "Rayne, take care of Tessa and do what you can. Let me watch the pups; this isn't something they need to see, however little they are." Laek spoke truth there, a mangled alpha was never a pretty picture. She walked near Cas, giving him a small nudge, a bit scared to lose yet another alpha. But wait, where was Sibirskiy?

Cas visibly relaxed as Laek showed up, sighing as she offered to take care of the pups. There was Laek, always thinking ahead. She probably had a point, and he picked up the cat, carrying her out of the den and taking her to the one he shared with Laek. They should move Rayne's pups as well. He looked down at Isis, signally that she needed to stay put, and then ran back to Rayne's den, helping Laek carry the pups over to their den and smiling as they curled up around Isis who was grooming them affectionately. The cat was likely a teenager, and it was nice to have her taking care of the pups while they transferred them over. Then he returned to Rayne's den, whining softly.

"Do you need anything, Rayne?"

He asked, tilting his head curiously as he looked down at the healer hopefully. Laek would keep an eye on the pups, and Cas had seen KiRae outside, so he knew that the other male would help him protect the dens and as he exited the den, he looked for him while he sat down as if guarding the healer's den. Nothing and no one would be harming Tessa any longer, he'd make sure of that. He kept a close eye on the den he shared with Laek as well, making sure that the pups were safe as well.

Laek smiled as Cas helped her move the pups, and she followed him to their den not too far away. She walked inside to see the cat keeping a good eye on the pups. Good, Laek could watch them, as well as pay attention to the outside. She placed herself between the pups and the entrance so they didn't leave. She looked out to see Cas playing guardian outside the healer's den. She was glad that they trusted him here; much more than they had in the old pack. Laek returned her gaze to the pups and Isis. She had yet to hear about this cat, or why she was here. Or her name even! She tilted her head, smiling at how Isis was grooming the pups. "I wonder what you're doing here little one." Laek laughed a bit, doubting the cat understood her.

She had heard the howl too, sighing softly as she shifted uncomfortably. It didn't mean anything good... she already had a bad feeling when Tess first took of to go talk with Sib, but... now she was even more so worried. After a few minuted though, she stared in utter shock as Cas appeared at her den entrance, Tessa on his back, bloodied, and not looking to good at all. She looked back at him as he spoke, shaking her head, she didn't understand, how, what happened! "Oh god.... what..." she said lowly, getting up, careful not to disturb the pups though as she moved closer. She was unconscious alright, bleeding badly, and, not breathing so well. Wet and muddy.... what had happened?! Then Laek came in, nodding as she said she'd take care of the pups. Thank god for Laek being here... "Yes, please watch them..." she said, moving over and looking around. She hadn't even the chance to get the den stocked with her healing supplies, sorta been busy with pups... but she had to make due with what she could find. Bleeding first, that was more important. Moving around the den she tore some of the moss that hung from the dens roof and sides, balling it up and pressing it against the more serious parts of her wounds. It really wasn't no help for the infection, but, it's help slow the bleeding and give time for the blood to clot up.

Stepping out of the den now she looked over at Cas, "I need you to go find me some things, please." She said, grinning. She really didn't have anything here that she needed... but at least she could get the basics from Cas. "Near the more open parts of the plains there's a cactus plant I need, small, long stems with spikes on it. That and I need some water brought up here. If you could, I also need you to find some more moss around out there, there's no where near enough here in the den area." She said, turning and going back in the den. She didn't mean to act rude about it, but, she was sorta in a rush. Sitting back down near Tessa, cleaning up near where the bite marks were all over her leg. What had happened to her....

Cas looked back at Rayne as she exited the den, nodding as she spoke. He was gone in an instant, running off to get what she needed. The cactus was easy to find, and he brought it back quickly before racing off to find some moss. He wasn't sure where to look, but along the nearby stream seemed promising. Sure enough, he found some, brought it back, and then began to dig a canal from the stream that ran through the den area straight to Rayne's den. That way she'd have water ready whenever she needed it, and it would be fresh.

The digging was rather difficult, as the ground wasn't exactly soft, but he managed, carefully making it wide enough for the water to flow, as well as ensuring that it could flow past her den and back into the stream to make a constant flowing and avoid problems like they had back at the Silverlight dens with contamination. When he finished, he alerted Rayne, wondering if there was anything else she needed, anything at all.

The wolf looked up as he heard Rayne call out to Cas before returning to her den. KiRae Stood up as Cas did, he went to follow the male and help him in Rayne's request. He wasn't much help finding the flants, but as Cas started to dig from the stream, KiRae joined in and dug through the tough ground behind the other wolf.

When they finished, He stood a little ways behind Caz infront of Rayne's den. He sat dow, letting his tail curl around his paws, watching the two communicate. He lifted his ears as he tried to catch up with the pack, but hearing What happened to both Tess and Tessa, his ears flattened against his skull.

As she waited for Cas she took the time to get back over to Tessa and start to clean her up a bit, licking and cleaning her up to avoid any bad infection where she was bit, the last thing she needed was Tess's wound getting severely infected with something, she was already looking in bad shape as it was. Once Cas got back with the cactus, she grabbed that, breaking it open and letting the gel like stuff inside seep out as he rubbed it around the more worse parts of her wound. It would further help against infection, and, would help her naturally heal a bit faster. Then when he got back with some more of the moss, she used that to put back on and around the bites and such to keep the bleeding down. It was serious, yes, but as long as nothing went terribly bad right now, she was a little confident she would make it... a little.

Her eyes wandered back outside a while after as she noticed Cas and KiRae digging, a canal. She smiled a bit, he was thinking ahead wasn't he, and having that constant access to the water would be good. Taking some of the water in her mouth she walked back in to the den, pouring it over and continuing to clean her up a bit, at least till she figured she'd done enough, sighing as she looked down at the female. What had happened to her... and now that she had a second to look around, where was Sib? He was the one who howled out... why wanted he hear... something had to have happened.

Cas now laid down outside of Rayne's den, waiting to make sure that Tessa was alright. He didn't know what else to do, and now that the pups and Isis were safe, all he could think to do was sit and wait for news on Tessa's condition. He felt so useless, as well as angry. How could Sib just drop her and leave? He growled at the thought, but he took a deep breath, settling himself and shifting so that he was closer to KiRae, looking for something to take his mind off of everything. "I'm glad you're back, KiRae." He said, looking over at the other male and realizing how grateful he was that there was another male in the pack, especially one like KiRae.

Rayne's care of her finally paid off, and slowly Tessa regained consciousness, blinking slowly and groaning softly. When she finally adjusted to the light, she looked up at Rayne, frowning in confusion. "Where am I?" She asked, her voice soft and weak as she laid there, barely able to move with a throbbing pain in her back left leg. What had happened? How did she get here? She closed her eyes for a moment, the sight of Sib carrying her flashing through her mind. But where was he? He had left, how could he have carried her here for the swamp? She couldn't have been more confused, but a throbbing feeling in her head made her stop and look up at Rayne again, trying to figure out what was going on. The scents of Rayne, Cas, Laek, and KiRae were all around her, but Sib's was nowhere, could he have been the one that saved her? But how?

The young wolf looked down at Caz before stepping a little closer and lay down facing him. He flicked his ears and tail slightly the wolf spoke. He smiled and nodded. "I'm glad to be back, Caz. Missed you whole lot." he said and lay his head down on his paws, looking at Caz, his smile that was there was quickly erased at the male's saddened expression. He quickly nudged his friend's shoulder with a soft, reassuring smile. "It's ok Caz, its not your fault, She'll be ok." He said in attempt to cheer him up, his smile remained on his muzzle.

Raynes' ears flicked softly as she heard Tessa's voice, smiling softly. It was good she was actually conscious again, and, actually talking a little, even if she did still sound a bit weak. Taking a seat next to the injured female she looked down, a soft smile across her muzzle, "You're back here at the dens hun. Cas heard Sib howling and then found you near the border and brought you here." she said, looking over her. With her conscious now, she was a bit more confident that's she'd get better, at first with how bad she looked she hadn't known what to think.

"What happened Tess? Your leg, it was bitten and chewed up pretty badly." she asked, now curious as to what all had happened. There was pieces to the who thing here and there, Sib wasn't here, he hadn't even bothered to face anyone after bringing her here. Tess had left because the two were having troubles and wanted to talk with him... it all sorta pointed to the same conclusion, but, why she was hurt like this was the main thing she wanted to know.

Casanova frowned, glancing back at the healer's den as KiRae spoke. Sure, it wasn't his fault, but what would the pack do with it's one sole leader stuck in the healer's den? He frowned, resting his head on his paws and sighing softly. Thank goodness for Laek. She was taking care of the pups and Isis, and well, he didn't know what he'd do without her. But after a little while, he looked back, glad to see that Tessa was conscious. That was his sign to get up, and he walked over to the storage den and grabbed a few hares, dropping them in the entrance of Rayne's den for Tessa and then backing out and looking down at KiRae. "Would you like to come on an evening patrol with me? I usually go out in the morning and at night, just to make sure everything is secure and safe for the pack. It'd be nice to have some company." He said, hoping the other male would come along with him. Plus, it would help him get to know the territory better as well.

Tessa blinked up at Rayne with a confused frown, but when she finally let it all sink in, she closed her eyes, shivering slightly as she tried to remember it all in order to tell the healer what had happened. "Sib...he left me." She said softly, talking about how he had called everything off and decided to end their relationship. "I ran away." She added, her story broken up into forced chunks as she was incapable of getting it all out at once. "I ended up at the swamp, and I was so upset that I didn't notice the alligator." She said, shivering again as she remembered getting pulled into the water, until she had blacked out. "I don't remember the rest..." She said softly, sighing and resting her head on the floor of the healer's den. She didn't want to be cooped up in here, especially with all of the pack business that needed to be taken care of, especially since she was now the sole leader of the pack. But she had a feeling she'd be here for a while, and it frightened her, especially since she had not yet appointed a Beta or high ranking member to help her. But who would she choose?

KiRae watched as Caz lowered his head onto his paws. He felt a small pain in his stomach at the sight. The silver wolf flattened his ears and waited as he heard voices coming from the healer's den.. he watched as Caz got up and walked over to the storage dend then returned with a few hares for the injured female. he closed his eyes as he tried to pick Tessa's voice, trying to catch up on what'd happened to her since he got here. when Caz came back and stood above him, he quickly sat up and nodded. quickly. "Of course, i'd love to." he said softly and and perked his ears up. "I could do good to learn my place around." ahe added and started wagging his tail sloly. . "catch up a bit with you.! he mumbled softly,

Rayne listened silently as Tessa began to speak, nodding softly and listening patiently as she tried to explain what happened. Her entire explanation though was broke up into pieces though, she couldn't even put it all together, poor thing. Alligator though, that made sense, and sated the need to know. Sighing and laying down now for a moment she looked over at the alphess, grinning. "Well, in any case you're safe now, your not looking to bad, probably even going to get better. Though, I better not see you trying to get u[ at all for at least a few days, you need to rest still, it'll take a while for that leg to heal up properly and I don't need you stressing out and making it worse. Healers' order's hun, and you have to listen to those, whether you like it or not." She couldn't help but smirk cockily at Tess before sitting back up. The pack would just have to do without a formal leader for a few days while she got better, besides, they could manage. Besides, not only was she worried about Tessa's physical condition, her sanity was also a big worry, there was no way she was just dealing with things easily, someone wouldn't just go out and get caught off guard by an alligator unless something was the matter.

Casanova smiled as KiRae agreed to join him. "Now that Tessa seems to be awake, we should do a patrol and hopefully make it back before dark. That should put her mind at ease for at least tonight. Plus, we've got some time for me to show you around a bit as well." He said, getting to his feet and stretching. They'd head to the nearest border and work their way around the pack lands from there. Maybe they'd even bring back some small prey as well. Overall, though, Cas wasn't really concerned about the pack's storage. They'd all done a fairly good job of keeping it stocked, which was a very good thing, especially now.

Tessa sighed at Rayne's words. Yes, she knew that getting up and trying to walk would be a bad idea. But a few days? There were so many things that she needed to do! How could she remain cooped up in here and let the pack fend for themselves out there without her? She frowned, resting her head on her paws and sighing softly. "If you say so..." She mumbled, frustrated and worried about the pack. "He's not coming back, Rayne." She said softly after a while, lifting her head slowly and looking over at the white wolf. She had forced herself to say the words, but she didn't want to believe them, not yet. She couldn't just accept the fact that Sib was gone and he wasn't coming back.

She smiled when Tessa didn't argue, the returned to laying down, resting for now. She was tired, and, right now she didn't even have the pups with her, which in a way was a relief. Having been cooped up in this den with then for so long... it got... tiring. The small break was nice. Her ears flicked slightly as Tess spoke again, drawing a long sigh from Rayne. She didn't know what had been said between the two, and she didn't ask, it wasn't her business. Sib, her brother, she knew how he was... and, if he really had decided to leave Tessa, there was a good chance he wasn't coming back, Rayne knew that. "I know, hun. I'll be hear for you though, and, if you need anything just ask, a shoulder to lean on, an ear to talk to, anything. We're still family as far as I'm concerned." She said, smiling.

KiRae smiled and streched along with him, nodding and walked along side Caz, his silver tail flicking slightly in his wake. It was a small, and slightly unstable pack at this time, but it was his home now. He looked around the lands as they worked their ways around the boreder of their pack lands. His golden-brown eyes taking in every inch of detail, a smile spread wide across his muzzle. They walked primarily in silence, but that eventually got to KiRae. He looked over at Caz and smiled. "So, Caz, What else is there about the pack?" He paused. "I mean: is there anything i should keep an eye out for?" He added and looked around the plains, smiling as he waited for a reply.

The white healer had no idea what her words meant to the alphess, and Tessa smiled, nodding slightly. "Thank you, Rayne." She said softly, letting her eyes close for a moment before she opened them again, staring out at the entrance of the den. She'd be stuck in here for a while, and as she laid there, the smell of the prey that Cas had left for her began to make her stomach growl. So she leaned forward, pulling a rabbit towards her and beginning to eat it, enjoying the taste with each bite she took. She wasn't starving, so she took her time, mostly just eating for something to do, to keep herself busy.

However, it was a small animal, and soon she was finished, and she pushed the remains to the side, licking her lips and settling for grooming herself. By the fading scent of KiRae and Cas, she assumed they had wandered off, and from what she had learned about Cas lately, she assumed they were headed out on a patrol. She relaxed at the thought, glad to know that the pack members were so invested in the pack. It eased some of her worry while she was stuck here, unable to do anything but lay around and get better. She knew that everything would work out, everything would be fine.
